So you’re out for sushi with friends and expertly snap them in half. You then begin rubbing the two giant toothpicks together not quite fast enough to start a fire. You pride yourself and say to the others, “This gets rid of any sharp slivers.”

You expect a round of applause for your ingenuity when your friend BLOWS YOUR MIND.  You know the little end piece in chopsticks… they have a purpose… he snaps it… off?  What is he DOING???

Then the moment of truth sweeps over you.  You realize that there is far more in this world than in your philosophy (Shakespeare-ish), and you tip your hat to the ancient and multifunctional design prowess of the Asian cultures.

THAT LITTLE END IS DESIGNED AS A CHOPSTICK REST!

You enjoy your sushi, humbled and contemplative about your place, nay purpose, on this world.

But wait, there’s more!

Did you know that this engineering brilliance extends to toothpicks??!  Many Asian toothpicks are designed to be able to snap the end off, use it as a rest, and re-use the toothpick later.
